Tips for Driving in the Rain

Today is officially the last day of February, and by now, most of us have already been dreaming of spring for quite some time. Though we’re all glad and excited about warmer temperatures in our future forecast, with that also comes the frequency of something else:  rain. To prepare you in advance, we’ve put together a few tips for driving in the rain.

• Allow for more travel time than you think you might need. Traffic tends to back up with the nasty weather, especially since drivers should be slowing down (a given).
• Increase stopping distance by braking earlier and with less force. This also lets the driver behind you know that you’re slowing down. Be sure to always use your turn signal, as well.
• If water on the road looks even remotely high, don’t cross it. Your car could get caught and you could be stranded. Here are a few tips on what to do if you get in a situation like that.
• If it’s raining so hard even your windshield wipers can’t keep up, it’s best to pull over and wait for the rain to stop. Always keep your headlights on and watch out for pedestrians as you pull over.
