Summer Road Trips: Preparing Your Car

Summer is finally here in Okarche, Oklahoma. The kids are getting out of school, and families everywhere seem to be thinking that it’s time for a getaway! Whether you’re leaving just for the weekend or going on a two-week-long vacation, we here at Carter Chevrolet have put together a few tips for you for preparing your car for any kind of road trip!

  • This is the perfect time to clean out your car and have it inspected by a professional. Get rid of any trash or items in the car that wouldn’t be useful for the trip (and to make room for luggage). Schedule a service appointment with us here at Carter Chevrolet and we can help you make sure your car is in tip-top shape for traveling.
  • Make sure to pack all of the essentials aside from just your clothes:  toiletries, shoes, snacks for the car, plenty of water, a first aid kit, flashlight, blankets, pillows, jumper cables, and anything else you might need in case of a car breakdown.
  • On that note, you don’t want to overpack. The heavier your vehicle is, the worse your fuel efficiency, and that definitely matters on a long road trip. Pack only what you think you’ll need and leave the rest at home.
  • Be prepared for the worst and take a real, paper map with you wherever you go. GPS systems and smart phones are great, but often times lead you off course or die from battery exhaustion.

From all of us here at Carter Chevrolet, we wish you safe travels during your summer road trips!
