Riding in Cars: Protecting Your Family from the Heat

If you’re at all interested in the media or you pay attention to the news, you might have noticed that children and pets have been locked in smoldering hot vehicles all too often this summer, it seems. What is undoubtedly a terrible tragedy almost seems like a completely avoidable situation, yet it keeps happening. Whether it’s occurring more often or just being better reported on, we here at Carter Chevrolet want to offer up a few simple tips you can utilize to ensure a tragedy like this never happens to you or your family.

• Whenever traveling with your children or animals, put something next to your belongings in the front seat as a reminder. This could be something like a diaper bag, pet leash, toy, etc. Or, it might not be a bad idea to put your things in the back seat next to them so you’ll see them when you arrive at your destination.
• Put an infant mirror in the back seat that allows you to see your child or pet from the rearview mirror.
• Set an alarm on your cell phone to go off during the time you usually get to work/your destination, especially if there are only certain days of the week you’re in charge of child/pet duty. This is a reminder that it’s your day to transport
