Chevy CEO Tim Mahoney Discusses Manchester United Sponsorship

Chevrolet CEO Tim Mahoney talked with the Wall Street Journal recently about his goal to give the iconic American car brand a global presence. A large part of that plan relates to Chevrolet’s recent partnership with iconic Premier League team Manchester United.

“[There has been] a lot of growth outside the U.S. We’re now in 140 countries around the world,” Mahoney said during the interview. “When you look for a platform that could work across all of those of countries, sports certainly is possibility, and in the sports category soccer is probably the best representative. We aligned with Manchester United, probably one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world.”

Mahoney is also excited not just about the global appeal of the sport, but the increase in popularity stateside, as well. “There is a growing awareness of football or soccer here in the U.S., with the World Cup and the performance of the U.S. team,” he said. “We talk about ‘finding new roads,’ this is a new sport and new demonstration that Chevrolet is finding that.”
