The complimentary first-year visit is a single visit, not a program. It is worth using, and it is worth knowing it does not cover air filters — which, as we will get to below, is the item Oklahoma drivers need most often.
The Oil Life System, and Why Mileage Is the Wrong Trigger
The Blazer does not ask for an oil change every 3,000 miles, and it does not ask for one every 7,500 miles either. It runs an algorithm that watches engine revolutions, operating temperature, and miles driven, and it tells you when the oil is actually used up.
That means two Blazers with identical odometers can be on genuinely different schedules. Highway miles at steady temperature are easy on oil. Short trips where the engine never fully warms, and long idles in July heat, are not.
Do not change the Blazer's oil on a fixed mileage interval, and do not ignore the monitor either. Change it when the Oil Life System calls for it, or at 12 months / 12,000 miles, whichever arrives first. Reset the monitor after every change or it stops being useful.
We see two mistakes on this, and they cost about the same. One is the customer who changes oil every 3,000 miles because that is what their dad did, which is money spent on nothing. The other is the customer who drives 14,000 miles in a year, never looks at the monitor, and calls us about a noise. The monitor is doing real math. Let it.

What Oklahoma Driving Changes
The published schedule assumes normal service. A good share of driving around Okarche, Kingfisher, and Calumet is not normal service by GM's own definition, and the schedule should flex accordingly.
- Engine air filter, more often. Gravel and red dirt load a filter far faster than pavement. If you run section roads daily, inspect it at every oil change rather than waiting for 45,000 miles.
- Cabin air filter, more often. Same reason, plus wheat harvest dust and spring pollen. A clogged cabin filter shows up as weak air conditioning long before it shows up as a warning.
- Tires and alignment. Washboard gravel is hard on both. Rotation every 7,500 miles matters more here than the schedule implies, and it is worth having alignment checked if the Blazer starts pulling.
- Battery. Oklahoma summer heat kills batteries faster than winter cold does. Three to five years is realistic; have it load-tested before a long trip once it is past three.
- Undercarriage rinse. If the county has been running brine or salt on the roads after an ice storm, rinse the underside when it thaws.
