2014 Chevy Silverado EcoTec V8 Beats Ford’s EcoBoost Engine
Chevrolet is setting a new standard in terms of power and efficiency with its new EcoTec technology. In a recent release, Chevy announced the performance and fuel economy ratings for its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8, and they both rank higher than Ford’s highly touted EcoBoost V6.
The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 is project to power three out of the four 2014 Chevy Silverado models. The revolutionary V8 is certified to generate 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, but what is even more impressive is its fuel economy numbers.
Rated at an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway for two-wheel-drive model and 22 mpg for 4×4 models, the EcoTec3 V8 found in the 2014 Silverado is more fuel efficient than any other V8 in its class, and tops the 2013 Ford EcoBoost turbocharged V6.
“Silverado’s available 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 gives customers the best of both worlds,” said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer for Silverado. “Customers get the proven power and dependability of a V-8 truck engine, with better fuel economy than a leading competitor’s smaller turbocharged V-6.”
