Super Cruise · Hands-Free Demo
Super Cruise is Chevrolet’s hands-free driver assistance system for compatible highways. You set adaptive cruise control, press the Super Cruise button, and once the steering wheel light bar turns green you can take your hands off the wheel. It steers, keeps your speed, and can change lanes on its own while a camera makes sure you’re watching the road.
People hear “hands-free driving” and picture something complicated. It isn’t. In this short demo, Aaron and Lexi from Carter Chevrolet take a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country out on the highway near Okarche and show the whole thing start to finish: setting it up, going hands-free, automatic lane changes, and what happens when the driver looks away.
It was a genuinely windy Oklahoma afternoon when we shot this, which turned out to be a good thing. You get to watch Super Cruise hold the lane and pass a slower vehicle (a blue Ford Escape, as Aaron points out) in real conditions, not a perfect closed course. Aaron even wears sunglasses the whole time to show the driver attention camera still reads his eyes through the lenses. When he covers his eyes on purpose, the system flashes a warning and then disengages with a red alert that says “couldn’t see face clearly.” That’s the safety net doing its job.
By the end, you’ll understand the whole sequence: set adaptive cruise, press the Super Cruise button, wait for green, and go hands-free. You’ll also know what Super Cruise will and won’t do, and which Chevys offer it. If you’d rather feel it than watch it, that’s the best way anyway. You can set up a ride-along demo with our team, or read Chevrolet’s official Super Cruise overview for the full technical rundown.
Super Cruise at a glance
0:00How’s it going? It’s Aaron out here at Carter Chevrolet, and Lexi. And today we’re going to be showing off Super Cruise, an awesome, awesome feature from Chevrolet. It’s level two autonomous driving. So give us just a second to get settled into this ’26 High Country behind me and we’ll get a video of how it operates. Stand by.
0:22All righty. We are traveling right now at about 65 miles an hour. So in order to engage Super Cruise, the first thing you have to do is set your cruise control. So we hit this button right there, which turns on our adaptive cruise control, and then we just pull down, which is our set button. So now we’re traveling 66 mph. We’re in adaptive cruise control. So if somebody slows down in front of us, this vehicle will slow down as well.
0:49However, it’s not going to change lanes or anything like that, because it’s only adaptive cruise control. That’s a standard feature on most of Chevrolet’s lineup. However, when we hit this button right here, once adaptive cruise control is engaged, that’s going to turn to Super Cruise. This turns green right here, and now we’re experiencing a hands-free driving experience. It’s super duper easy.
1:06If somebody slows down in front of us at this point, the vehicle will signal with its blinker, or you can manually engage it by just pushing the blinker right there. Now, what it’s going to do is change lanes. So the vehicle’s switching lanes for us. Again, we’re completely hands-free and foot-free, traveling down the highway. Really, really awesome experience.
1:27We’re going to go into the right lane now. And this navigates turns. It navigates traffic. It’s absolutely wonderful. Super Cruise is one of the best driving experiences that you could possibly have.
1:39As long as this right here is allowed to monitor your eyes, and I’m wearing sunglasses right now, so it can see through the sunglasses. But as long as it can monitor your eyes and see that you are paying attention, it won’t disengage.
1:54It should disengage if you cover your eyes, which I’m going to do right now. And we’re going to see if it’ll disengage, or maybe turn my head to the side. And right now, it’s giving me a warning. The green light’s flashing. I can see it out of the corner of my eye. And now it’s completely disengaged. You can see with this red light right there. So that means take over. And “couldn’t see face clearly” is what it says right there.
2:18So we’re going to speed up, and we’re actually going to engage Super Cruise again. This time we’re going to have it with a car going slower in front of us. And here we go. So now we’re going to see what Super Cruise does with a vehicle in front of us that we’re approaching, that we’re closing in on. And so we will see it kick on the blinker and pass this vehicle.
2:47And this is an incredibly windy day. But Super Cruise sees that there’s nobody coming behind us, so it gets over so that we can overtake this car in front of us. That blue Ford Escape, I believe is what that is.
2:59So that’s a great demonstration on how Super Cruise operates, and just how nice it is to drive with it. It’s a really relaxing experience. And it’s some high quality tech that’s inside of vehicles. After we’ve overtaken that vehicle, now it’s safe to get over. The vehicle signals to the right and then gets back in the traveling lane that we were in.
3:20So hopefully you enjoyed this demonstration of Super Cruise. We’re going to shut it off and head back to the dealership. I appreciate you watching this video, and hopefully we can have a vehicle with Super Cruise in your driveway very, very soon.
Which 2026 Chevrolet models have Super Cruise?
For 2026, Super Cruise is available on select trims of the Silverado 1500 (including the High Country in this video), Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado EV. Availability changes by trim and package, so it’s worth confirming on the specific vehicle you’re looking at.
Do you have to keep your eyes on the road with Super Cruise?
Yes. A driver attention camera watches your eyes the whole time, and it reads them right through sunglasses. If you look away or cover your eyes, the light bar flashes green as a warning, then turns red and hands control back to you. It is hands-free, not attention-free.
Does Super Cruise work while towing a trailer?
On the Silverado 1500, yes. It offers a version of hands-free driving that works while trailering on compatible highways and accounts for the extra length and stopping distance. Automatic lane changes are limited while you’re towing, so you’ll steer for those.
What roads does Super Cruise work on?
Super Cruise works on compatible divided highways, more than 750,000 miles of them across the U.S. and Canada. It needs clearly visible lane markings, decent weather, and clean, unobstructed cameras and sensors to engage.
How much does Super Cruise cost after the trial period?
Eligible vehicles include a three-year trial of the connectivity Super Cruise needs. After that, an OnStar Super Cruise plan runs about $39.99/month in the U.S. Pricing can change, so confirm the current plan when you buy.
Can I try Super Cruise at Carter Chevrolet?
Absolutely. The best way to understand hands-free driving is to feel it from the passenger seat first. Aaron and the team can take you out for a ride-along demo on a compatible stretch of highway near Okarche. No pressure, just come see how it works.
Feel hands-free driving for yourself in a Super Cruise–equipped Chevy. We’ll set up a no-pressure demo right here in Okarche — friends first, cars second.
