If you’re looking for an adaptive SUV with plenty of features in Okarche, OK, then check out the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. These two vehicles have a lot to offer; however, there are some significant differences that should be considered before you purchase your next vehicle. Let’s take the time to compare these two compact SUV bumper-to-bumper and see which one pulls ahead.
The Equinox introduced a 175 horsepower 1.5-liter turbo engine to its powertrain selection. The exterior also added three new paint colors and it switched to an electronically assisted braking system, known as “E-boost.” The Equinox also saw the addition of two new packages, Sport and Midnight, for the LS trim
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross’ entire lineup now has standard all-wheel drive. Additionally, the exterior now has a new 18-inch wheel design and standard LED head- and fog lights.
The Equinox provides comfortable seating in both rows and offers adequate cargo space. Its nicely styled cabin comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, and an 8-inch touchscreen is available. The infotainment system is easy-to-use and the knobs and buttons make the common controls easy to operate. The Equinox can accommodate five passengers in plush, cloth-upholstered seats. The cargo space also provides a generous amount of space for hauling groceries or luggage.
The Eclipse Cross feels outdated and cheap with its hard-plastic materials. The cargo capacity is positive if based on first impressions, but you shouldn’t buy the Eclipse Cross based on cargo space alone. While the Eclipse Cross seats are comfortable, the sloping roofline takes away rear-seat headroom and requires some contortions for taller passengers entering through the rear door. Critics also state that the 7-inch standard touch screen was satisfactory but not impressive.
The Equinox can deliver a balanced ride and above-average fuel economy, with its turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. The engine is also paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that shifts effortlessly. The Equinox’s standard front-wheel drive gets 26 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The handling is adequate and gets the job down when driving on twisting roads. The Equinox is easy to drive and when properly equipped it can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
Critics found that the Eclipse Cross suffered from body lean when cornering and needed a more secure ride. The brakes also make the drive difficult with its grabby feel that can jerk the SUV. The lackluster handling took away from the overall experience, and the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine produced 152 horsepower which is less than the Equinox.
